Connecting with the weekly lessons

Oct 14th - Session 7:

God Blessed Isaac

BIBLE PASSAGE:

Genesis 26:1-6,12-33

MEMORY VERSE:

Genesis 26:24b

TEXT TRUTH:

Isaac trusted God and chose to seek peace.

CHRIST IN CONTEXT:

The Book of Genesis is a book of beginnings. In the beginning, God created a perfect world. Sin separated mankind from God and showed that people need a Savior. God called Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob with a promise that one of their descendants would be the Messiah. Jesus is the Messiah, the One who came to rescue people from their sin.

LESSON SUMMARY:

God chose Isaac to continue His covenant with Abraham. But God’s blessing on Isaac’s life did not mean that Isaac never faced strife or conflict. Our world is broken by sin. We will face tough times, but we can learn from Isaac that the best thing to do in those times is to obey God and trust Him. Because Isaac trusted God to provide for him, he did not need to fight for what was probably rightfully his. Instead, Isaac chose peace—again and again. When is the last time your family chose to seek peace with each other? Name a couple of situations you or your kids face each week. Talk about how you can trust God and choose peace in those tough situations. Don’t forget to check out this week’s Family Card.

Oct 21st - Session 8:

God's Plan for Jacob

BIBLE PASSAGE:

Genesis 27–28; 32:1-32; 33:1-4

MEMORY VERSE:

Jeremiah 29:11

TEXT TRUTH:

God can redeem our sin and create something good.

Most of us can probably identify with today’s Bible person, Jacob. Jacob has spent his youth making some poor choices. As a result, his relationship with his brother was broken. He also struggled with other family relationships from time to time. Jacob knew what it was like to mess up. Don’t we all? But God had a plan for Jacob. God chose Jacob and renewed the covenant God also had made with Abraham and Isaac. Eventually, Jacob learned to turn to God and seek His help. God gave Jacob a spiritual inheritance beyond the physical one he had sought many years before. As a family, think about times when you have sinned. When you asked God for help, what did He do? Don’t forget to examine the discussion questions on the back of the Family Card.

Oct 28th - Session 9:

Joseph Sent to Egypt

BIBLE PASSAGE:

Genesis 37:1-36; 41

MEMORY VERSE:

Genesis 50:19-20

TEXT TRUTH:

God is always with us, even when we suffer.

LESSON SUMMARY;

Kids began a two-lesson study of the life of Joseph. Joseph was favored by his father but hated by his brothers. After discouraging event after discouraging event unfairly happened to Joseph, he found himself in prison. Yet that is where we read one powerful verse, “but the Lord was with Joseph and extended kindness to him” (Genesis 39:21). Even in our toughest times, even during our times of suffering, our Lord is with us. Spend some time this week praying for each member of your family to know that God is always with them.
