OUR LEADERS

JIM CHURM

ELDER

I came to faith at 14 in Neenah, just before moving to Egg Harbor (Gibraltar High School alum!). My faith grew at Northwestern University (philosophy major) and Northwestern Law School. A rewarding career followed in the investment management industry, taking me to Washington D.C., New York City (3X) and San Francisco (2X).

I loved work and big city distractions; gradually they became idols. For a period in my 30’s I wasn’t in church and lived unbiblically. But God, being rich in mercy! By His grace alone I married Liz (a Californian) in 1997. We soon walked into Tim Keller’s Redeemer Presbyterian Church, where I repented, my faith instantly was renewed and Liz’s confirmed. Thereafter we continually have walked closely with Jesus and in God’s Word.

Since then I’ve been deeply involved in church ministry, as an elder in New York, on pastoral staff in Berkeley, leading groups, discipling men, providing pastoral counseling and in many other ways. It’s a joy and privilege to serve God as he builds Christ’s kingdom through the local church.

In 2021, God surprisingly and wonderfully brought us to Door County. Liz and I love our SBCC family. I am humbled and blessed to be an elder.
